My name is Liz Feeney. My dog Libby and I have been providing healthy, natural dog treat recipes for free on our web site, Dog Treat Recipe Exchange, since 2004. I’ve had the pleasure of helping people around the world make healthy treats for their beloved dogs.

Since I bake her homemade treats, I’ve often thought about also making Libby’s food myself, mainly for her health. I want to provide her with vibrant, glowing health so that we can be together for a very long time.

The pet food recall forced me to begin taking that idea seriously. I began to pay closer attention to what commercial dog food manufacturers put into the food they make. In fact, I started doing research and what I learned shocked me and made me angry!

Even though the recall is water under the bridge for now, the real problem remains:

Commercial dog food is full of Ingredients like diseased animal parts, rotten meat and possibly the flesh of euthanized (put down) dogs and cats, apparently collars and all.

These ingredients, along with chemicals like BHT (a really nasty preservative), artificial colors (to make the food look good to humans so they’ll buy it), and fillers (one brand uses sawdust) regularly cause disease and other health problems in dogs.

I have a full-time job, a 2-hour drive to and from work (that's with no traffic) and I'm a competitive cyclist, which requires about two hours of training each day and races on weekends. I barely have time to cook for myself.

I love my dog and because of what I learned as a result of the dog food recall I made the decision to take control of what Libby eats by making homemade dog food for her.

Due to my significant time constraints I knew I had to get creative to be able to make food for Libby. Now that I’m doing it, I’ll never go back to feeding her commercially made food.
